Mitchell Bourdeau

Our next athlete we caught up with is Mitchell Bourdeau, a former longtime Queen City North player, and graduate from Missisquoi Valley Union High School.  Mitchell is currently a freshman defender at Herkimer College in Herkimer, NY.  Herkimer College is a member of the Mountain Valley Conference of the NJCAA.  They have been a national powerhouse in the NJCAA perennially.  This past season they were 20-0 heading into the NJCAA National Championship game where they fell 2-1 to Richland College (TX).

While at Herkimer, Mitchell made solid contributions as a first year player for the NJCAA National Runner-Up.  He appeared in 11 games for the Generals scoring 4 goals, while adding 2 assists for a total of 10 points.

What is it like being a college athlete?

Being a college athlete is very humbling, competitive and overall has been a great experience so far. While in high school from a small a town, you go from being well known and considered a high class player to having to work up the ranks again and earn your playing time.

What do you love about Herkimer College? How is it unique?

My favorite part of Herkimer is the diversity within the team. Over half of the team is made up of international players.  We have players on the team from Japan, England, Norway, and Jamaica, to name a few.

It is such a great way to be introduced to the different styles people from around the world.  It’s really neat to learn from them and play in these different styles, while also calling these guys my teammates.  It is a cool experience.

What has been a great memory so far at Herkimer College?

My best memory so far would have to be scoring in the national tournament. The excitement amongst the team was such a great feeling and to put the ball in the back of the net on such a big stage is one of the things all players dream of.
